2016/2017 Performing Arts Season

BETWEEN HAVANA AND HEAVEN

Miami Dade-County Auditorium

November 20, 2016

The Hispanic-American Lyric Theater in collaboration with the Miami-Dade County Auditorium

presents the innaugural concert of Dimensions Dance Theater of Miami. Directed by Carlos Guerra

and Jennifer Kronenberg former principal dancers with Miami City Ballet, the program features

dazzling choreography by Tara Lee, Yanis Pikieris and Septime Webre.

Tickets: $35 (General Admission)

 

THE CONTEMPORARY OPERA SCENE

Florida International University

Wertheim Performing Arts Center

April 27, 2017

An unforgettable evening of the best of Contemporary Operas performed by graduate students

from the University of Miami and FIU. Among the scenes to be performed are Menotti's "The Medium",

"The Ballad of Baby Doe" by Douglas Moore and "Knoxville Summer" of 1916 by Samuel Barber.

ZARZUELA (The Lyric Music of Spain)

Miami-Dade County Auditorium - On Stage Black Box Theater

April 28, 2017

An evening of scenes from such beloved zarzuelas as "El Gato Montes", "Luisa Fernanda", "La Tempranica",

"La Verbena de la Paloma" and others. A cast of eight singers, flamenco dancers and chorus, will delight the

audience with a display of  "Spanish passion".

OPERETTA/BALLET SHOWCASE

July 8 & 9, 2017

In order to offer young outstanding singers and dancers in Miami-Dade professional experience in their respective fields,

HALT will present a week-end of memorable music featuring scenes from Lehar's last operetta: "Giuditta", "A Night in Venice"

by Strauss and "The Gondoliers" by Gilbert and Sullivan. The dance segment will feature dances from the zarzuelas "The Gondoliers",

"Alma de Dios" and the operetta "Die Fledermaus" by J. Strauss.

Tickets: $20 (General Admission) - $10 (students)

SONGS OF THE SPIRIT
FIU-Wertheim Performing Arts
Center

October 8, 2015

Under the Artistic Direction of Dr. Kathryn Longo, the FIU Concert Choir presents

the American Premiere of "Misa Buenos Aires" by Argentinian composer Martin Palmieri.

The program also includes works by Johannes Brahms, Pablo Casals and Paul Basler's

"Gloria" from Missa Kenya. The program is a co-production with the FIU School of Music.

OPERETTA/ZARZUELA SHOWCASE

Scenes from the operetta "The New Moon" by S. Romberg, "Guiditta" by F. Lehar,

"Candide" by L. Bernstein and "Rosalinda" by G. Mattox together with selections from

popular zarzuelas. The program features outstanding professional young singers and dancers.

composed by Samuel Barber and based on the poem "Knoxville: Summer of 1915" by the

American poet James Agee.

This musical program will feature outstanding young professional singers performing scenes

from the opera "The Barber of Seville" by G. Rossini, "Rigoletto" by G. Verdi and the operettas

"The Student Prince" by S. Romberg and "Czardaprincess" by K. Kalman. The program will

end with Zarzuela selections. Tickets: $20 & $10 Students/Day of Event

 

LA DEL MANOJO DE ROSAS (Spanish Zarzuela by P. Sorozabal)

(The Girl With the Roses)

Miami Dade-County Auditorium

July 23 & 24, 2016

The zarzuela takes place in Madrid just before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939)

and deals with life of ordinary people in the capital. The flower girl, Asucion, unfairly suspects that

the man she loves, Joaquin, has dishonorable intentions toward her. She decides to leave but he persists

in letting her know his true feelings towards her and the zarzuela ends in a happy note.

The production will feature singers, dancers and orchestra.
